10 percent of U.S. adults meet vegetable intake recommendations

(HealthDay)—Solely 12.3 and 10.0 % of U.S. adults met the fruit and vegetable consumption suggestions, respectively, in 2019, in response to analysis printed within the Jan. 7 challenge of the U.S. Facilities for Illness Management and Prevention Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

Seung Hee Lee, Ph.D., from the CDC in Atlanta, and colleagues used the 2019 Behavioral Threat Issue Surveillance system information to estimate the share of adults who met fruit and vegetable consumption suggestions total and by sociodemographic traits for 49 states and the District of Columbia.

The researchers discovered that 12.3 and 10.0 % of adults met fruit and vegetable suggestions, respectively, starting from 8.4 to 16.1 % in West Virginia and Connecticut and from 5.6 to 16.0 % in Kentucky and Vermont, respectively. Hispanic adults had the best prevalence of assembly fruit consumption suggestions (16.4 %), whereas males had the bottom prevalence (10.1 %). Adults aged 51 years and older had the best prevalence of assembly vegetable consumption suggestions (12.5 %), whereas these residing beneath or near the had the bottom prevalence (6.8 %).

“States can use the findings to information their packages, communications and social advertising and marketing, and insurance policies to help bettering and vegetable entry and consumption,” the authors write.
